PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Earth Day is April 22nd every year, all around the world. Earth Day has grown so much that celebrations take place throughout the whole month of April, also known as Earth Month. More than 6 million Canadians join 500 million people in over 180 countries in events & projects to address local environmental issues. Nearly every school child in Canada takes part in an Earth Day activity.

This year our students will be taking part in science demonstrations as part of the Earth Day, lead by a team from Science North, sponsored by our school council and organized by Mrs. Holtby.

Individual classes may also participate in school or community clean-ups and classroom based activities.

Our Eco-Team, with advisors, Mrs. Haskin and Mr. Tripp, continue to encourage on-going activities such as composting our apple cores for chickens and collecting cartridges, and phones and other recyclables.

It is so important that as educators and guardians we encourage our children to be environmentally responsible.  As a native American proverb says “We do not just inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children”.
