On November 21, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) teaching staff, educational assistants, and early childhood educators from all schools across the Board will be participating in professional development in-person, focusing on school improvement planning in alignment with the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Student Achievement Plan, as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI). Below is the format that will be taking place throughout the day for each group:
Elementary
Length: Half day
Topic: School improvement planning and AI

Description: Over two-hours, school teams will engage in School Improvement Planning (SIP), focused on analyzing data to evaluate 2024–2025 goals. Teams will use this time to determine the extent to which existing goals have been met, and to establish new targets in the areas of literacy, numeracy, and attendance for the 2025-2026 school year.
School staff will discuss AI’s potential as a teaching and learning tool; how using and understanding AI is important in preparing students for success post-graduation, and how using AI should be done within school boards and ministry policies related to cyber safety, cyber security, responsible use of technology, and protecting student privacy.
Elementary occasional teachers only

Topic: Curriculum Services, Special Education Services, and Human Resource Services Training

Description: Elementary occasional teachers will spend the day receiving professional development and training from Curriculum Services, Special Education Services, and Human Resources Services, focused on the following topics:
- Curriculum Services – New language curriculum, literacy block, and UFLI lesson modelled
- Special Education Services – What To Do Cycle, explicit instruction, fostering a positive classroom environment, Special Education Tool Kit, individual education plans
- Human Resources Services – Health and Safety and Violence Prevention Training
Secondary
Length: Full day
Topic: Student achievement and Board improvement planning and AI

Description: In the morning, school teams will focus on sharing school data with staff to develop new goals and strategies that include universal design for learning and differentiated instruction. In the afternoon, departments will develop plans to implement the new goals and strategies.
In addition, school staff will discuss AI’s potential as a teaching and learning tool; how using and understanding AI is important in preparing students for success post-graduation, and how using AI should be done within school boards and ministry policies related to cyber safety, cyber security, responsible use of technology, and protecting student privacy.
