Pincipal’s Message

Happy October! We are so luckyleaves to be in beautiful Muskoka at
this time of the year.

We have had a very positive beginning to the school year at Spruce Glen, with the students and staff settling into the new school year.
There is a small staff change to announce. Mrs. Davis, who has been teaching in the grade 1/2 class has accepted a part-time position at another school.  Although she will be with us still at the end of each school day, Mrs. MacKinnon will be taking on the primary teaching responsibilities in that classroom. We also welcome back Mrs. Montgomery, who will be here each afternoon.

This year the province has introduced a slightly different reporting process. The report sent home towards the beginning of November, will be called a Progress Report. It will inform you regarding your child’s progress in regards to Learning Skills and Work Habits, skills that we know are so important to their success in school. Academics will also be reported upon, indicating how well the student is progressing, what their strengths are, as well as next steps for improvement. The difference will be that this report won’t include marks, but instead a checklist indicating whether they are progressing well or with some difficulty. The reports in January and June will include marks and comments. We encourage contact with teachers if you have concerns about your child’s progress, as we know how important your role is in supporting your children at school.
